Tagged links and campaigns
How to see which ad, post, flyer or profile brought each visit, enquiry and booking.
What a tagged link is
A tagged link is your website's address with a short label added to the end. The label says where you shared the link and what you called the campaign. The page it opens is the same; the label only tells Analytics where the visit came from.
For example, a link for a spring flyer might look like yourbusiness.com/?utm_source=flyer&utm_medium=print&utm_campaign=spring+offer. You never need to type that yourself.
Make one
- Open Analytics and find the Campaigns panel.
- Press Make a link.
- Choose the page the link should open. Landing pages are listed first.
- Choose where you will share it.
- Give it a name, such as Spring offer. Use the same name everywhere the campaign runs and its visits count together.
- Press Copy link, then paste it into your ad, post, email or QR code.
Make a separate link for each place you share, so you can compare them.
Where you can share it
- Google ads
- Google Business Profile. Use your home page, then paste the link as the website on your Business Profile.
- Facebook or Instagram ads
- A social media post
- Email or newsletter
- Flyer, poster or card
- Somewhere else
What you see
Each campaign gets a row in the Campaigns panel with its visits and what those visitors did: enquiries, calls and bookings. When a booking is paid, or you record the amount paid on a won enquiry, the money is credited to the campaign that first brought that customer.
An enquiry's own page also says where that person came from.
Ads without a tagged link
Google, Microsoft and TikTok add their own code to a paid click. Mainmark reads it, so a visit from one of those ads counts as Came from an ad even without your link. It just is not grouped under a campaign name.
Mainmark does not read what an ad cost or how many people saw it. That stays in your ad account.
